Punky Reggae Party


Punky Reggae Party, la canción de Bob Marley & The Wailers, grabada en vivo y editada en el disco Babylon By Bus, en el año 77, jamás fue editada en un disco de estudio.




Marley compuso este tema al tomar con mucho agrado la versión de Police & Thieves que hicieron The Clash de Junior Murvin, en su primer disco .



La letra menciona una fiesta con 3 bandas punks (The Damned, The Clash y The Jam) y a los clasicos del pub-rock conocidos como Dr. Feelgood.




Como erróneamente se suele decir, tambien tocan los Wailers, pero no la banda del profeta reggae sino The Wailers una banda garage de los 60 precursora del sonido punk y para muchos pioneros en la actitud callejera y contestataria del movimiento que cambiaría el sonido y la contundencia del rock de la que Bob era muy fanático.
 
 


Es de notar la participación de bandas como The Ruts o The Police en sus comienzos y personajes como Don Letts, mítica figura del reggae y el punk quienes ayudaron a el resurgimiento del reggae radical luego de la muerte de Marley. Ese momento histórico de principios de los 80 fue vital para el reggae, gracias a las bandas punks quienes con su revisión del sonido roots lo mantuvieron vivo.
